Is GFMapper free to use?

Yes. The core feature set (mapping, filters, favorites, diner reports, reviews, photos) will always remain free. Any new feature that starts out free will always remain free. We believe that finding places to eat with confidence is something that everybody should be able to do regardless of cost. We don't want to take advantage of a community that already struggles with ridiculously high food prices, and when we do offer paid functionality, we will keep it to the lowest possible cost we can.

How is GFMapper different from the other gluten-free apps out there?

People with celiac and NCGS come first on GFMapper. We make a deliberate choice to differ between GF oats/no oats and GF wheat starch/no wheat starch because we know there are people who either react to those or who don't feel comfortable with those. Self-reported reactions are another very useful datapoint when you're deciding whether to eat somewhere.

How do diner reports work?

Diners answer specific questions about what they asked the staff and what they saw — dedicated fryers, separate prep surfaces, how the kitchen handled their order. Each answer becomes a dated report attributed to a real visit, alongside any reaction reports. GFMapper never computes a verdict from them: we show you the record and you decide.

How does GFMapper use AI?

It doesn't. GFMapper relies on user-generated data and community feedback. We may use it for things like labeling photos in the future, but there will never be AI-generated content related to gluten-free safety.

How are restaurants classified?

Restaurants are classified based on their gluten-free practices: Dedicated GF or non-dedicated. Dedicated GF restaurants may also indicate whether they use GF oats or GF wheat starch.

How do I report incorrect information?

If you notice incorrect information about a restaurant, please submit a review with the correct details.
